This article explains possible reasons for incoming and outgoing transfers that have not been completed or processed successfully.
Incoming Transfer
We often receive questions about why a domain transfer is still showing as "Pending Transfer" in your control panel, even though you requested the transfer several days ago. Here's what might be happening and what you can do.
gTLDs (Generic Top-Level Domains) — .com, .net, .biz, .email, .shop, etc.
If you're transferring a gTLD domain (any extension with more than two characters), the process works as follows:
- You initiate the transfer through Lyratris, and the domain status will show as "Pending Transfer" in the WHOIS record.
- The transfer will remain in a pending state for 5 days. During this time, the domain's current owner or admin contact has the option to approve or reject the transfer via their old registrar. In most cases, this approval comes through an email (called "FOA2") sent by the old provider.
- Important: If no action is taken within the 5-day window, the transfer will automatically complete on day 6.
Can Lyratris speed up the transfer?
No, Lyratris cannot speed up the process. As the domain is still under the control of the current registrar, we have no influence over the transfer timing. To speed up the process, the old provider must approve the transfer. Check with them for the specific approval method (usually through email or their control panel).
Can Lyratris cancel the incoming transfer?
No, Lyratris cannot cancel the incoming transfer. This can only be done by the domain's registrant or admin contact via the FOA2 email sent by the current registrar.
ccTLDs (Country Code Top-Level Domains) — .fr, .es, etc.
Transfer procedures for ccTLDs (country-specific extensions) vary significantly, as each country determines its own rules and timelines. For example:
- .fr transfers can take anywhere from 8 to 22 days.
- .es transfers may only succeed if an email verification is completed within the specified time.
To get more details on specific TLD transfer processes, please check the relevant Knowledge Base article for that extension. You can search for the TLD in the search bar to find the information.
Outgoing Transfer
If you're transferring a domain from Lyratris to another registrar and the transfer hasn’t been processed yet, follow these steps:
- Check with the new registrar: Make sure you’ve completed any required actions on their end.
- Once the outgoing transfer is initiated, you will receive a "FOA2" email to approve or deny the transfer. Confirming this email will speed up the process.
- Can I speed up the outgoing transfer via Lyratris?: If the TLD supports it, you may be able to approve the outgoing transfer faster. Please open a support ticket to do so. This option is generally available for gTLDs.
Important Notes:
- This option is only available for active domains. Once a domain expires, we can no longer initiate updates or force the transfer, except in the case of restoring the domain.
- Lyratris cannot deny an outgoing transfer. This can only be done via the "FOA2" email sent to the domain owner or admin contact.
